Get to Know James

Jimmy works with the College of Social Work’s data, helping collect, organize, and report on it. Prior to this role, he worked with UK’s Office of Student Organizations Activities where he managed the University of Kentucky’s involvement database. It was a great introduction to the Big Blue Nation! Before coming to Lexington, he spent many years in a variety of leadership and technical roles across nonprofits and higher education, working in Texas and Indiana. His undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering paved the way for critical thinking in lots of areas, but he found himself drawn to supporting students and campus communities. For many years, this took the form of student advising, program management, and team leadership with strategic planning. During the pandemic he stepped back and learned some new skills (SQL, data visualization software, etc.). This opened up more doors on campus.

Recently (Spring 2026), he finished a Master of Public Administration here with the Martin School. The classes and research projects developed a lot of useful technical skills and helped give context to best practices for working in the public sector. He is always excited to learn new things and might find himself back in the classroom soon.
