Apply to UK as a transfer student

UK accepts credits from regionally accredited institutions. Number of accepted credits varies by program. If required, submit your program-specific application. 

Submit official transcripts from all prior institutions

Minimum GPA: 2.0

Personalized advising & transfer planning

Work with your academic advisor to finalize your transfer plan. 

Program-Specific Transfer Requirements 

Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW)

 

  • Apply for admission to UK as a Social Work major, and work with an advisor to determine when to apply to the professional social work education program.
  • Transfer up to 67 credit hours
  • Complete 120 hours total for graduation
  • Must earn a C or better in all professional social work courses

Master of Social Work (MSW)

  • GPA Requirement: A 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA (and 3.0 graduate GPA, if applicable) is required for admission to the MSW program. (if the GPA is below a 3.0, the applicant is required to complete a petition for exceptional consideration)
  • Transcript Submission: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended are required.
  • Transfer Credits: Up to 25% of coursework can be transferred from other regionally accredited institutions. (transferred credits must meet the requirements set by the Graduate School)

Program Options:

  • Regular Standing (60 credit hours): For students with a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field.
  • Advanced Standing (30 credit hours): For students with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program earned within the last 7 years and a 3.5 GPA in social work classes. (not all are considered a “BSW”, they can also be considered a BASW or BSSW.)
