Get to Know Lisa
Lisa York serves as a KY-KINS Family Peer Support Specialist with the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, supporting the Kentucky Kinship Resource Center (KKRC). In this role, she works directly with kinship caregivers, providing guidance and support as they navigate caregiving responsibilities, access resources, and build stability for the children in their care.
Lisa has an academic background in healthcare, having graduated in 2004 from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System with an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Care. Her training and experience in respiratory care provided a strong foundation in patient care, critical thinking, and supporting individuals in high-stress situations. She later transitioned into human services, where she completed training relevant to her role as a Family Peer Support Specialist and gained experience working directly with families to provide guidance, support, and connection to resources.
In her current role, Lisa focuses on meeting families where they are, offering encouragement, practical support, and a nonjudgmental presence. She supports caregivers as they navigate systems and access available resources while building confidence in their ability to manage challenges. She is committed to helping kinship caregivers feel supported, equipped, and confident as they build stability and resilience for their families.
