Get to Know Alexis

Dr. Alexis Bell is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. She earned her bachelor’s in psychology from Eastern Kentucky University in 2017. Soon after, Dr. Bell began teaching Bible Study at her church, finding her passion for education and supporting students of all ages. Dr. Bell then enrolled in the MSW program at the University of Kentucky and graduated in May 2020. For five years, she was employed by Fayette County Public Schools as a District Mental Health Specialist, then as a Youth Service Center Coordinator.

Dr. Bell began her career in higher education in spring 2022 when she was hired as an adjunct instructor at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. A year later, Dr. Bell began teaching part-time for the MSW program at the University of Kentucky. Her desire to shape the minds of future social workers shines bright through her dedication to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment where students can excel. After completing her Doctorate in Social Work in May 2025, Dr. Bell advanced to full-time faculty in the College of Social Work at UK as a Clinical Instructor, where she currently teaches BASW and MSW courses.

Dr. Bell’s research interests include Black girls and how they are impacted by the school-to-prison pipeline and the shortage of Black women faculty in academia. She aims to continue bringing awareness to and finding solutions for these societal issues.

Along with her commitment to advancing the field of social work, Dr. Bell is dedicated to serving her community and participating in organizations that promote lifelong learning. She is a proud member of a sorority and several academic and professional organizations.
