Get to Know Andrea
Andrea K. Sparrow, DSW, LCSW, is a Lecturer at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, where she teaches across undergraduate and graduate programs and serves as a course coordinator for multiple core courses. With a strong commitment to student engagement and applied learning, Dr. Sparrow integrates experiential activities and critical dialogue into both in-person and online classrooms to prepare future social workers for complex practice environments.
Dr. Sparrow earned her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Louisville, where she received the 2025 Dean’s Citation Award for academic excellence. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Murray State University. Her scholarly interests include resilience-building among social work students and the application of evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
In addition to her academic role, Dr. Sparrow brings over 16 years of professional experience in clinical social work. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she has provided therapeutic services across diverse settings, including private practice, community mental health, foster care, and trauma-focused programs. Her clinical expertise includes the use of evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Dr. Sparrow is actively engaged in professional leadership and service. She currently serves as President of the Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Workers, where she supports membership growth, professional development, and peer consultation. Her career reflects a deep commitment to advancing social work education, strengthening clinical practice, and fostering resilience in both students and the communities they serve.
