Get to Know Eva

Dr. Nyerges is a Lecturer at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, where she teaches across program levels, including undergraduate, MSW, and Doctor of Social Work (DSW) courses. Her research interests focus on practitioner well-being in organizational contexts, with particular attention to refugee resettlement agencies and youth-serving organizations.

Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, Dr. Nyerges served as the Evaluation Specialist at the Michigan State University Great Lakes Midwest Regional Food Business Center, where she led evaluation and monitoring activities. She has also taught social work courses at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, and at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Dr. Nyerges earned her PhD from the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work, where she also worked as a graduate research assistant. Before pursuing her doctoral degree, she worked at Kentucky Refugee Ministries in Louisville, providing case management services to intergenerational families and directing a county-wide program supporting older adult refugees on their path to U.S. citizenship.

She earned her MSW from the University of Kentucky in 2015, completing practicums with Legal Aid of the Bluegrass and Seedleaf.

Dr. Nyerges is passionate about teaching with a growth mindset and preparing students for meaningful, sustainable careers in social work. Her pedagogy emphasizes critical inquiry and the evaluation of practices and systems that shape the daily experiences of social workers and the communities they serve.
