Joy Lynn Richardson, DSW, MSW, LCSW is a Clinical Instructor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. From 2020 – 2025, Dr. Richardson was an Adjunct Instructor at Aurora University and National Louis University. With twenty years of experience in nonprofit, hospital, and school settings, Dr. Richardson’s career encompasses extensive experience working with multi-stressed youth, supporting the well-being of educators, helping young adults navigate the transition to adulthood, and implementing trauma-informed practices. She maintains an online therapy practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado and Illinois. Dr. Richardson volunteers with local advocacy organizations, Girl Scouts, Climate Kids Club, and as an elementary school yoga instructor.
Dr. Richardson holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia and a Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Kentucky. She completed the Professional Program in Trauma-Informed Interventions at the University of California Berkeley Extension, and the Advanced Clinical Training at the Chicago Center for Integration and Healing. Her research focuses on the intersections of social work education and professional formation, with special attention to ensuring social work students graduate with the tools and strategies necessary for sustainability and success.
